Chirundu District, April 6, 2026 – Chirundu Town Council (CTC) is nearing completion of a modern fire station under the Zambia Devolution Support Programme (ZDSP), aimed at boosting fire officers’ working conditions.
Council Secretary Benson Bweenje led an inspection of the facility, highlighting the council’s commitment to service delivery.

The inspection team, which included Assistant Director of Engineering Mr. Kaumba Saihemba and a Public Relations Officer, toured the site to assess progress.

The new fire station promises improved office space, equipment storage, and operational efficiency, ultimately enhancing emergency response in the district.

“This project marks a significant milestone for Chirundu. It will improve fire officers’ welfare, effectiveness and boost community safety through faster emergency response,” Bweenje said.

The facility is expected to reduce response times, improve fire prevention, safeguard lives and property in the Central Business District and beyond. It’s a key part of government’s decentralization efforts to bring services closer to citizens.

The fire station should be commissioned soon, pending final works completion.Chirundu Town Council Steps Up Fire Services
