Road rehabilitation in Chirundu Constituency is moving at an impressive pace, turning long-standing transport challenges into real progress on the ground. With works advancing on key stretches, communities are beginning to feel the difference in their everyday movement and economic activities.
Chirundu Town Council is currently working on the Lusitu–Nkadabbwe stretch, while the Chilindi–Machavika stretch is being finalised. These works have already begun to ease movement for community members who previously struggled with rough terrains, especially during the rainy season.
All 12 wards comprising the constituency are set to benefit from the K3.2 million allocated towards shaping the road network. For many households, this investment means shorter travel times, reduced transport costs, and safer routes for children, farmers, and traders.
Government recognises that a good road network is at the heart of community development. Roads connect people to opportunities whether it is taking crops to the market, accessing emergency services, or enabling teachers and health workers to reach remote areas. By strengthening these routes, government aims to stimulate economic activity, improve service delivery, and ensure no community is left behind.
President Hakainde Hichilema earlier this year directed that resources must be utilised to improve infrastructure that directly impacts people’s day-to-day lives. The ongoing road works in Chirundu reflect this commitment and demonstrate government’s continued resolve to enhance mobility and uplift livelihoods across the constituency.
