Chirundu Town Council has procured a motor grader worth K3.3 million using the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in a bold effort to improve the status of roads across the district.
Speaking during a ceremony, Town Council (CTC) Council Chairperson, Nevers Muchindu, said the grader will significantly transform the Council’s ability to open, grade, and maintain roads that communities rely on daily.
“For many years, our people have struggled to access health facilities, schools, and markets due to poor road conditions.
This grader will help us address those challenges by improving connectivity, reducing travel time, and ensuring farmers, learners, and transporters can move safely throughout the district,” he said.
Mr Muchindu added that the machine will especially benefit rural and peri-urban areas that have previously been cut off during the rainy season.
Chirundu District Commissioner, Patrick Kasambila, also highlighted the developmental impact the grader will have on the district’s economy.
“Road infrastructure is a catalyst for growth. With better roads, we strengthen agriculture, boost cross-border trade, and support tourism. Improved accessibility means quicker delivery of emergency services, better school attendance, and timely transportation of produce to markets. This equipment is not just a machine it is an investment in our people’s livelihoods,” he said.
Mr Kasambila further emphasized the grader’s importance in ensuring long-term road sustainability and reduced maintenance costs.
In closing, Chirundu Town Council Secretary, Embassy Cheembo, reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to efficient service delivery and sustainable development.
“The procurement of this grader demonstrates our dedication to building a connected, productive, and inclusive district. We will continue prioritizing investments that improve the well-being of our residents and support long-term infrastructure growth,” Mr Cheembo said.
